WATER TREATMENT
In 1999, the Village of Mackinaw decided to implement major water system improvements to better serve the existing population and plan for future growth and expansion of the community.
The previous 300-gallon per minute water plant used an ion-exchange softening system and was being outpaced by demand.
The new water plant uses a lime-softening system
and has a capacity of 700 gallons per minute, providing higher quality water in a more efficient manner.
The project also replaced the Village's existing shallow wells with two new, high capacity wells drawing from the Mohomet-Sankoty aquifer. The Village of Mackinaw previously maintained
two elevated storage tanks of 75,000 and 50,000-gallon capacity. The project involved the construction of a new
500,000-gallon elevated tank to replace them.
The $3.4 million project, completed in the spring of 2004, resulted in an upgraded, integrated, state-of-the-art water system for the Village of Mackinaw and it's water service customers.
