VILLAGE GOVERNMENT

The Village Board of Mackinaw consists of a President and six Trustees. They hold regular meetings on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Meetings are open to the public. Each member of the Village Board is elected to a 4 year term. Names of current Village Board members and other Village Officials can be obtained by viewing the Village Board link at the left.

TOWNSHIP GOVERNMENT

Mackinaw Township consists of any property surrounding the Village of Mackinaw.  The Mackinaw Township Board consists of a Township Supervisor and four Trustees. They hold regular meetings on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. Meetings are open to the public. FIRE AND RESCUE

The Mackinaw Rescue Squad provides emergency medical services 24 hours per day. They have well trained Emergency Medical Technicians, modern equipment and can provide transportation to hospital facilities in Hopedale, Pekin, Peoria, and Bloomington.

The Post Office lobby is open 24 hrs. Window hours are Monday-Friday 8:30-5:30 closed over the lunch hour from 11:30-12:30 -Saturday 8:30-11:00 . Mail boxes prices are listed below**

LIBRARY

The Mackinaw District Library is one of the best small town community libraries to be found anywhere. The Library is located in the Village at 117 S. Main Street. It houses a collection of over 21,000 books, videos, and audio recordings, and subscriptions to 73 periodicals and has many other services. The Library is a member of the Alliance Library System and is tax supported and is governed by an elected board. Their phone number is 309-359-8022. The library hours are:

ZONING

Land use in the Village is regulated by a zoning ordinance. A permit must be obtained from the zoning officer before any construction can legally begin. Copies of the zoning ordinance may be obtained from the Village Clerk at 100 E. Fast Ave.

Mackinaw Township (anyone outside of the Village limits) and Heritage Lake Residents need to contact Tazewell County Zoning in Pekin, IL.

DISPOSAL SERVICE

Mackinaw's garbage service is provided by a private firm operated by Mr. Ben Neville of Minier, Illinois. Garbage will be picked up at residences for a monthly fee. Pick up is on Tuesdays in the Village and on Wednesdays at Heritage Lake and can be arranged by calling Mr. Neville at 309-392-2407.

Yard waste pick up is offered to Village Residents only, from March-November.  Only lawn waste collection paper bags will be picked up containing yard waste and trimmings, all bags must be set out at the curb by 7am on the second and fourth Monday of each month.  If you have any questions, contact the Village office at 359-5821.  Yard waste bags can be purchased at the Mackinaw Hardware Store or the Village office.  Bags are sold in a bundle of 5 for $2.

CABLE TELEVISION

Cable television service is available for Village Residents from Mediacom Corporation, Chillicothe, Illinois. Rate information can be obtained by calling 800-874-2991.  Mediacom also offers internet and phone service.  Heritage Lake residents cable service is provided by Tel-Star Cablevision, Inc., East Peoria, Illinois.  For more information or to sign up, please call 888-842-0258.  Tel-Star also offers internet and phone service.
