REGULAR MEETING MINUTES

 

MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS HELD AT THE MACKINAW MUNICIPAL BUILDING AT 7:30 P.M. 

 

Chairman Jerry Sweckard called the meeting of the Zoning Board of Appeals to order at

7:30 p.m.  It was a regular scheduled meeting.

  

I.                   ROLL CALL: Present: Chairman – Jerry Sweckard and Board Members - Ted Laidig, Wes Nunley, Todd Smith and Chuck Lowery. 

 

Absent:  Board Members Steve Powell Sr. and Tom Goings

 

Also Present: Recording Secretary/Village Collector Lisa Martens and Zoning Officer Dallas Davis

 

II.       APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Regular Meeting – February 10, 2009

 

Nunley moved, seconded by Laidig to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of February 10, 2009 as submitted. Motion carried

 

III.       ZONING OFFICER’S REPORT:   Zoning Officer, Dallas Davis, reported to the Board that no permits were issued in February 2009. 

 

IV.       VARIANCE HEARING:  A hearing was held regarding a variance application request received by Mr. Brett Zehr, owner of Mackinaw’s Hometown IGA located at 100 N Main St, Mackinaw IL to reduce the number of parking spaces that commercial businesses are to provide as stated in Section 153.144 of the Village Code of Ordinances.  The code states that retail stores shall provide one such parking space for every 100 square feet of floor space which would mean 82 parking spaces are to be provided.  Mr. Zehr is asking that a variance be granted that he may provide no less than 50 parking spaces.

 

            Smith moved, seconded by Laidig to recommend to the Village Board to grant Mr. Zehr a variance to reduce the number of parking spaces for the Mackinaw Hometown IGA to no less than 50 parking spaces.

 

            On a roll call, the vote was:

            AYES:  Sweckard, Smith, Lowery, Laidig, and Nunley

            NAYES: 

            ABSENT:  Goings and Powell Sr.

            There being five affirmative votes, Motion carried.

 

 

V.         ADJOURNMENT @ 7:45 P.M.

 

There being no further business to come before the Board, Nunley moved seconded by Smith to adjourn.  Motion carried.
